Yesterday, the Little Jedi, Sam, and I did more Mardi-Gras’ing. We made our way to Mid-City, to the home of friends who live on the parade route, and everyone had a good afternoon of day-drinking, eating, and playing before heading up to the parade. Little Jedi and I managed to get up-close-and-personal with Ian Somerhalder and Norman Reedus. We made some parade friends, who were super-nice enough to share their beads and throws with Little Jedi, who was delighted to have such attention lavished on him.
This blue-haired beauty in front of us was one of those friends. She passed along a football to the Little Jedi that he’s been throwing around all day. It’s a pity you don’t catch people’s names that often, but it’s also fun just to have a small interaction, a moment of affirming the happiness of the city and the kindnesses of strangers. And yes, it’s fun just to watch the people.
Little Jedi got tired, so we headed back home before the parade was over. It was always more about having fun than about seeing everything there is to see, so our mission was accomplished anyway. We’re thinking that next year might call for a Mardi Gras ladder. Sam had one when he lived on the parade route, but they’re trouble to cart about, especially in our small cars, so we didn’t keep it.
Today we’re skipping the parades…After two days of parading, with both of my ankles still recovering from sprains and Little Jedi tired, we all slept late today. Theoretically it’s going to be raining tomorrow. But Little Jedi’s school is having their own little parade (so we’ll be able to send some of those piles of beads away), and then we’ll see about parading anymore after that. For now, we’re happy to be having a lazy Sunday.
