Tolkien Roundup – June

I’m taking a break from my Lord of the Rings series today to share a few Tolkien-related links that I’ve especially enjoyed over the past couple of weeks. You can find an index to my entire series here.one_ring_by_lucasmt

First up, a fabulous post from Sweating to Mordor about the origin of the rings of power that discusses differences between the elven rings and the other lesser rings. A Whole Mess of Rings and None for Man Nor Dwarf.

The Leather Library had a lucid character study of Eowyn for Feminist Friday last week. I’d love to have more general discussion about women in Tolkien sometime.  It’s occurred to me more than once over the past several weeks that even though there are hardly any women depicted on the page in The Lord of the Rings, the ones who are included are powerful.

GollumFinalA Tolkienist’s Perspective asked a very good question for Silmarillion fans a couple of weeks ago: Is Ungoliant a fragment of Melkor’s discord? The post generated such a good discussion it required a follow-up.

Finally, if you’re on the hunt for Tolkien-related stuff of all varieties around the web, be sure and check out Middle Earth News’ regular feature, An Eagles’s View of Middle Earth. It often includes not only good Tolkien blogging, but original artwork, hand-crafted memorabilia, and videos.

I hope you’re having an awesome week. I’m planning to have another installment of my series next week.

    1. You’re welcome! Just discovered Middle Earth news a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve been reading and chatting with those other bloggers for months. They all do some of the best Tolkien blogging I’ve been able to find.
