The Thursday Thirteen: Favorite Horror TV Shows

A few weeks ago, I wrote about horror films for a special Thursday Thirteen at Sourcerer. This week, we’re even nearer to Halloween, and I’m still in the middle of a Halloween-horror-fest. I’ve been watching films as well as the return of American Horror Story, which I’m blogging on Sourcerer. And this week, then, I decided I’d share my person favorite horror TV shows:

1. The Walking Dead

2. Hannibal

3. American Horror Story

4. The Twilight Zone

5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

6. American Gothic

7. Penny Dreadful

8. Being Human (Sorry to be an Anglphile, but the BBC version is better.)

9. Goosebumps

10. Courage the Cowardly Dog

11. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

12. Alfred Hitchcock Presents

13. Twin Peaks

What are your favorites?

  1. It’s funny – I tried Walking Dead and gave up about five episodes in. I might need to revisit as a few people have told me it gets better after the first season.

Buffy forever and I did enjoy the original Twilight Zone.

  2. We Love Being Human, the BBC version. We haven’t watched the American one, because we can just tell it won’t be the same by the dialogue used and what we couldn’t get away with on broadcast tv here in the states.

    1. I watched the first season just to see what it was like. It was ok, but the cast just didn’t have the chemistry that the BBC version did. And there is, as you say, a marked difference between what can be said/shown on the BBC version in comparison to the American version. There are also some other changes that I find fascinating, though, like the vampire characters being much stronger in the American version and the ghost character starting out much weaker. The basic storylines are the same, though, down to major plotpoints.

  3. I haven’t seen AHS or Being Human, but I have been told that I need to, so onto the list they go.

I love that you included “Billy and Mandy” on there. We love that show!

Walking Dead…well, I think we know that I adore that. I am dying to talk details about last week’s episode but am waiting a little longer 🙂

    1. They’re both really good, though I thought the 2nd and 3rd seasons of AHS were a bit scattered, not as well thought out as the first season. The 4th season has been really great so far. Being Human was stellar up through the 3rd season or so, then the cast starting changing and it just wasn’t the same—but it’s definitely worth the watch. Really neat take on ghosts, for one thing.

And yes—Billy and Mandy are the best. 😀

Also waiting to talk about TWD when the review runs this week—such a weird episode!

    1. I couldn’t decide whether it would qualify, either, but if Buffy qualifies, then Supernatural probably does. They’re the same sort of tongue-in-cheek horror, I think. I made the mistake of not watching the first few seasons of Supernatural, though, and now there’s so much that I don’t think I can ever catch up. lol

    1. I really enjoyed the first 4 seasons of True Blood. I did finish the show, but I didn’t enjoy the last couple of season. It just seemed like something was missing or off, like the show worked better when there was a kind of mystery to solve, which it got away from.

I haven’t seen The Vampire Diaries, though I’ve heard good things about it.

    1. It doesn’t, unfortunately, which is one of the reasons that it didn’t make the list. Some things are indeed best left as memories.
