The Thursday Thirteen: 13 Fictional Places I’d Like to Visit

Today, I have wanderlust. Maybe it’s the grey, cool weather. Maybe it’s all the reading I’ve been doing. Anyway, it’s a wanderlust of a special sort, the longing for places we can’t actually get to. There’s probably a word for that, but I don’t know what it is.

That means today’s Thursday Thirteen is inspired by fictional places I’d like to go to. And I noticed that they have something in common–they’re not entirely safe. I do suppose that’s part of their charm, though. Et en Arcadia ego.

1. Middle Earth, The Lord of the Rings

2. Narnia, The Chronicles of Naria

3. Eerie, Indiana

4. Neverland, Peter Pan

5. Sunnydale, California, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

6. London Below, Neverwhere

7. Hogwarts, Harry Potter series

8. New New York, Futurama

9. The Emerald City, The Wizard of Oz

10. Halloweentown, The Nightmare before Christmas

11. Twin Peaks, Washington

12. Wonderland, Alice in Wonderland

13. Storybrooke, Once Upon a Time

  1. This is a sweet one. I need to do one of these. Some of these places would appear on my list, of course, but I could finesse the Tolkien so as not to use Middle Earth, specifically. And I can think of quite a few fictional places that are not on your list. A couple of which are somewhat off-the-wall and you would never think of them.

    1. Oh, I bet that was so fun! I remember doing similar things as well. When I was really young, my next door neighbor and I pretended that the unicorn sticker on her mirror made it a portal to another world. lol

    1. Thanks for the reblog!

And I know what you mean about Sunnydale, but the monsters seem to mostly play by a set of rules, so it seems safer than some of the other places, actually. lol

  2. I like the maps you found with these places. I’d pick End-World, from the Dark Tower books, even though it’s more likely to get me murdered than even Hogwarts.

  3. I’m all for Hogwarts and Emerald City with a few that I’d have to take into further consideration including Neverland, Sunnydale and Middle Earth 🙂

    1. 🙂 I think I’d want either some new abilities or a magical protector before I wondered off into any of them, Hogwarts and Emerald City included! Glad you stopped by, and thanks for reading!

  4. Great post! Part of me really wants to visit Sunnydale, but as I’m neither superpowered nor a vampire, I don’t think I’d last very long…

    1. haha…I’m not sure I would without the protection of someone like Buffy, so I’d either have to get some kick-ass skills or be protected while visiting.
