Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Read-Aloud Books for a Little Jedi

Each week, The Broke and the Bookish hosts Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly booking meme. This week is a freebie, so everyone is choosing their own themes for lists.

And since we were talking about Little Jedi and I reading Harry Potter just last week, I decided to compile a list of his favorite read-aloud books for Top Ten Tuesday this week.

We read a lot around here, especially aloud. Whatever else happens, we always read three stories before bedtime.Β We have all sorts of books about, from classic children’s books and stories to comic readers and Power Rangers books. But these are his favorites right now:

  1. Dr. Seuss is incredible. I love reading all his book aloud, and my 5 year old enjoys most of them. When I read “Oh the Paces You’ll Go”, I start to tear up!

We love Julia Donaldson’s books because not only are the stories great but reading them is so much fun. She’s incredible!

There’s also the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems. Hilarious!

I’ll look up the books on your list that we haven’t read yet.

    1. I haven’t heard of the Elephant and Piggie series–I’ll have to check it out!

We do read “Oh the Places You’ll Go” from time to time, too. It actually always reminds me of high school graduation. Both my parents and a dear friend bought me copies of the book. Of course, that makes me think a bit about what Little Jedi will be like when he graduates, and I do tear up a bit, too. It’s funny how that happens, how even books change when you’re a parent.

    1. Yep–that one’s called Darth Vader’s Little Princess. Little Jedi wants that one, so I think he might get it for his birthday. I didn’t know about the new one, so I just looked it up. It’s coming soon, and it’s called Goodnight, Darth Vader. Brown has written some other stuff, too, but I think those are really the best.

  3. Good picks! Have you read anything by Oliver Jeffers? I highly recommend his books and The Day the Crayons Quit, which he illustrated. He’s wonderful.
I did my TTT on reasons to read comics. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks! I haven’t read anything else by Jeffers, but I do love The Day the Crayons Quit. It’s on my list of books to buy for little Jedi—probably for his birthday in April!

  4. I love the Fox in Socks! But then I love children’s books in general. I really enjoying reading aloud and whenever I’m with my nephew we read together. I get as much enjoyment as he does. Our favourite at the moment is Dinosaurs Love Underpants!

    1. Oh, we have such fun with Fox in Socks! It’s one of the first books that he read that really made him laugh aloud. I haven’t read Dinosaurs Love Underpants, but it sounds fun!

        1. πŸ™‚ I have a lot of old versions of them. My mom loves finding vintage books and rescuing them, and one of the great things she did for me was collect old editions of the Dr. Seuss books for me. There are so many of them, and so many great ones!
