#WeekendCoffeeShare: In Which I am Relaxing

weekendcoffeeshare

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that it’s been a great week. I do seem to have picked up a bit of a cold over the past few days, and I think my body is finally feeling the weight of the past month or so—I’ve been a sleep quite a lot these past 2 days. But luckily I’ve had time to unwind as well as time to work.

I spent quite a lot of the week finishing up a redesign of Part-Time Monster. I chose a new theme, got a .com, and redid the pages, widgets, and menus. I went through the social media connected with the blog to update profiles and information. I am now working on building a few new pages, including one that lists my guest posts, but mostly I’ve finished up the things I wanted to do. The feedback I’ve gotten has been encouraging, and I’m happy to introduce a new, more polished version of the Monster.

I’ve also been doing quite a bit of research this week, reading up on sewing, costuming, home economics classes, and textile conservation for the nonprofit. The reading has been really interesting, and I’m really excited about the work we’re doing.

I’ve also been reading a few other things this week. I finished up the first volume of Sex Criminals (quite impressive) and Kim Fu’s For Today I Am a Boy (also impressive); I’ve almost finished V for Vendetta and Barbie and Ruth, a really interesting look into Mattel. Having so many books going is nice, and it’s doubly nice to be able to catch up on comics that I’ve missed. I haven’t managed to clean out those closets that I wanted to, but they can wait for the coming week.

Today is just a relaxing day—one where I might take a nap and will probably get a lot of reading  and definitely get a lot of writing done. i’m visiting coffee posts today, too–and with that, I leave you.

    1. I’m still on wordpress.com but used the upgrade to a custom domain. I considered self-hosting, but I don’t run the blog for a profit anyway, and so I decided to go with the easier route. I do self-host another site though, for my photography business—just not my blog.

  1. Love the new design – I had planned to do mine as well in June but vacation and me feeling poorly didn’t allow that to happen…but it will. Enjoy your relaxing weekend!

    1. Thank you!

The Barbie and Ruth book is really good. I’ve got about a chapter or 2 left in the book, and it’s been compelling the whole way through. Very focused on the business, but that seems very much to have been how its founder was, as well.

  3. I like the redesign! It looks very nice 🙂
I really need to start moving on that instead of continuing to say “oh, I should look at that” and not doing anything. Enjoy the relaxing day — it seems like you’ve been going so non-stop lately that I imagine a relaxing day is well overdue!

    1. Thank you! I spent most of last weekend and the early part of the week executing the design, and I’m pretty happy with it.

And you’re right! I want to get together soon and talk about Passionate Geeks with you, too! 🙂

    1. I used to read one book at a time, but over the years as a grad student, I’d have several books due to be read in a week, and I had to start reading them concurrently. I suppose now I’m just accustomed to it.

    1. They can be! Luckily, I think this is just a small one, and I’ve gotten to nap and relax a lot, so I’m sure it’ll be gone soon. 🙂

    1. Sex Criminals is a comic series about Suzie and Jon, a librarian and an actor, who realize they can stop time when they orgasm—and how they decide to use that power to help save the library. It’s a bawdy, funny comic. 🙂

And yes—it’s been a great one! There’s a summer storm blowing up now, so I think I’m going to curl up and read while I listen to the thunder and rain.

  4. Summer colds are the worst! Hope you can take it easy today and work on getting rid of the nasty thing! I’m impressed by your revamping of your blog site. Very nice! Maybe some day (like during a blizzard) I will find the time to sit down and really put some much needed time into mine. (Ha! Who am I kidding?!)

    1. I have been able to work on the coffee share and squeeze in a nap today, so it’s been a pretty pleasant Saturday.

Thanks for the compliment about the blog—it took a while, and I’m still doing a few things, but I’m really happy with it.
