#WeekendCoffeeShare: Of Library Cards and October Plans

If we were having coffee, we’d be curled up on the couch today–and it’s definitely pajama day. We all have a three-day weekend, which is nice since this week has been another busy one. The beginning of the week was full of errands to run and business to do for the nonprofit, and then Little Jedi was ill and had to stay home from school Thursday. Luckily, he’s feeling much better and was able to go back to school on Friday.

You can expect that I’ll have a stack of books nearby, and I’d crow about the library card that I got this week, as I’m really excited about all the books I have access to now. The public library here in New Orleans has several different neighborhood branches, and they also have a really good e-book collection. I’ve got several books out right now, and a few on hold, and I’ve got a big list of things to check out in the future.

This week, I’ve been reading The Walls around Us, which I finished up yesterday, and I also started on Hemlock Grove and The Girl with All the Gifts. That’s what I mean about devouring the books. I’m also set to start reading Armada and the Walking Dead and Fables series in the coming weeks. And last night we stayed up late watching the Scream movies as a sort-of send-away to Wes Craven, whose movies both of us have enjoyed for years now.

Today is a day of reading and working on the blog, and I expect tonight to be mostly the same. Sam has film and script work to do, and Little Jedi is away with his dad for the weekend, so this is a good weekend for pajamas and lazily getting things accomplished.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been doing a lot of blogging work this week. I published a comics post at Sourcerer this past week, and yesterday’s post on my curly hair has generated some really neat discussion. I’ll be writing the Monster Monday this week, and you can also catch me on Wednesday this week at Eclectic Alli’s blog writing about my glassware collection for her Passionate Geeks Project.

I’ve also been working on some major things for October here at Part-Time Monster. I’m planning to devote the entire month to spooky stories and Halloween themes. Only Fridays will be reserved for non-themed content, as I will be reblogging posts from our next round of Feminist Friday Discussion posts.

Even weekend coffee shares will have a Halloween theme, and I’m excited to have Allison, Corina, Urszula, Melissa, and Alex on board to write guest posts throughout the month. Natacha Guyot will also be here, and we’ll be chatting about some of the female characters she’s created as she makes a stop here on her blog tour to promote her new story collection, Clairvoyance.

I’m also really happy to say that not only will Emily from Nerd in the Brain be guest posting here, but we’ll be teaming for a special part of her Go Play! Challenge! We’ve cooked up a list of 31 October challenges, and I’ll be giving away a horror block to the person who completes the most challenges. To sign up and see what the program is all about, go here—and stay tuned, as I’ll be announcing challenges for October in the coming weeks!

    1. I think it will be! There are some posts going up about things I’m excited to learn more about, and with the added Nerd in the Brain Go Play! October challenge, it should be a lot of fun to play on the social medias, too.

  1. I am so jealous of your 3-day weekend. Although I had an amazing weekend, I could use a day of rest. I look forward to all you have planned for October. Glad to be able to contribute.
