If we were having coffee, we would probably be out in the city. I’m working for the nonprofit today, helping with a booth at an Anti-Bullying 5K. The kids are making superhero masks—there are plenty of booths with food and drink, and you can probably even grab a beer if you want. I’ve got a few things to do after this, and it’s work-time, so I’ll stick with coffee, though I might make my way to one of the food trucks for a bite to eat. In the afternoon, I’m dropping off some donations at our storage facility.
And then I’ll be on my way home, where Sam and I intend to spend the evening pulling Halloween decorations out of the basement and putting them up around the house, then watching horror films for the rest of the night. I must say that I’m quite excited about both…As you might’ve noticed from the blog changes and from all the chattering I’ve been doing about it, I’m quite the fan of both Halloween and horror films, and I love October because we get to celebrate that stuff.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about all the October plans we’re making. Sam and I are planning to go to The House of Shock, a large-scale haunted house, with Lyn and her husband, at some point during the month. We’re also planning to take Little Jedi to the Krewe of Boo Halloween parade and probably to Boo at the Zoo. Little Jedi will be with his dad for trick-or-treating this year, so Sam and I are deciding on what sort of shenanigans to get into on Halloween night. But in the nights leading up to, we’ll definitely be watching horror films, carving pumpkins, and catching a few not-so-scary specials, too—especially Charlie Brown and Garfield!
I’ve got to start working on a costume, but since I’m not sure where we’re going, I haven’t come up with a solid idea yet. I’m sure to need one, though. I do have a few costume pieces to work with, at least, but I want to mix it up rather than wearing last year’s costume. Luckily, I’m home quite a bit these days, so I still have plenty of time.
I would tell you that I’ve been really happy to see and hear about the challenges that you guys are working on for the October edition of Go Play! I’ve seen some pumpkins and some monsters from several of you, and it’s only October 3. I’m looking forward to seeing more photos and hearing more stories from the challenges. (For those of you who haven’t, check out the October challenges here, and then go to Nerd in the Brain to sign up–and while you’re there, check out her awesome Halloween posts!)
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the blog is going to be full of Halloween goodies this week. Monster Mondays, since they’re oh-so-appropriate for a creepy month, are continuing, this week with a post from Allison. On Tuesday, Urszula will be discussing Slavic vampires, and on Wednesday look for a post from Alex on inanimate ghosts. Thursday, we have a super-special double-authored post from Allison and Corina about their adventures on a ghost tour.
Friday is reserved for reblogging our feminist Friday discussion posts and contributing to the discussion; this coming week, we’ll be at Allison’s blog. And if you haven’t checked out the opener for this round of discussions, go to I’ll Make it Myself and see what Leah has to say about street harassment, gender, and food.
For now, I’m off to work, and then to decorate for Halloween!
