#WeekendCoffeeShare: In Which It’s Almost Halloween

weekendcoffeeshare

If we were having coffee, we would be hanging out at home, getting ready for a busy afternoon–and there might just be a little bit of Bailey’s in my coffee. We’re spending the morning at home before heading off to get smoothies and visit the local comics shop with Cat and her wife and kiddos, then there’ll be a slight break in activities for recuperation and dropping off packages before heading out to the Halloween parade in the evening. The kids are excited to dress up in costume and see the parade, and it’s a rather infectious feeling that we’ve set to kick off a week of Halloween goings-on.

Of course now, in addition to the Halloween goings-on, I also have to do the cleaning and prep-work that I’d intended to do this week. I was in the bed, fully loaded on cough medications and Nyquil from about Thursday of last week until Wednesday this week, and so my apologies for taking ages to reply to comments and for missing out of visiting coffee posts last weekend, too. I was ill enough that I didn’t manage to complete the horror film post I was working on, so I had to reblog an old one. At least I have one in the works now for later publication. I’ve still got a wee cough, but aside from that I’m feeling normal again. I actually managed to get some planning done toward the end of the week.

And there’s a lot to do. I’ve got to pull together my costume this week, since Halloween is practically here, and that means trial runs of hair and make-up in addition to making sure the outfit is together. Speaking of costumes–I’m also working with the nonprofit this week for a big Halloween costume giveaway. One of the neighborhood centers has a big Halloween event, and we’ll be there on Tuesday with a costume tent and accessories. It’s going to be fun, but it’s also going to be a bit hectic, I’m sure. Wednesday is both a parent-teacher conference at Little Jedi’s school and a night that we’ll be going (sans-LJ) to House of Shock, a big haunted house/attraction here in NOLA. We’re also set to see Crimson Peak this week, and we’re hosting a small Halloween event here at home on Friday.

Oh, and at some point, I need to carve a pumpkin.

Suddenly, Halloween has become a bit of a sprint, but this is always the fun part. This is the part with lots of silly decorations and costumes and ghost stories. And candy.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that our last week of Halloween fun is winding up here at Part-Time Monster, too, but we’re not done yet. There’s still time to participate in the Go Play challenge and to send your October entries to us. Here on the blog, we’ll have a Monster Monday from Urszula this week. I’ll also be at her place this week, talking about Dracula on her Monday Inspirations series. On Tuesday, Emily will be here with another Spooky Science experiment to share, and on Wednesday, look for an original piece of flash fiction from Melissa! Thursday will be devoted to thoughts on Dia De Los Muertos from Corina. Friday will be devoted to the Feminist Friday Discussions, this week hosted by Gene’O.

And with that fantastic line-up announced, it’s time for me to go and get another cuppa. See you next week for a Super Special Halloween Coffee Share!

  1. Sounds like a fun busy week full of Halloween activities. I’m having a Halloween party next Saturday and we’ve got all costumes set. I’ll be a skeleton, my son a ninja, and my husband will most likely be Spock. We’ll do pumpkin carving this week and my son’s school is having Pumpkin Day on Thursday. Have a great week, Diana.

    1. So fun! Little Jedi’s had his costume for weeks, but Sam and I are still working on ours. Generally we’d have one done already, too, but it’s just been a very busy month. It’ll all come together though!

  2. Halloween sounds totally fun where you are! As someone mentioned, with my kids grown and gone, decor is a the bare minimum. I do try to attend a party or two. Happy Halloween to you (early) and thank you for hosting the weekend coffee share and link up! I always look forward to participating!

    1. Halloween is definitely a fun time in this area…New Orleans loves any excuse for costumes and parades, and Halloween is a good one.

Thanks for stopping by, and glad you’re joining us for the coffee shares lately! 🙂

    1. Thanks! It’s nice to be back to my usual 87%. 😉

I love Halloween…I think that not celebrating it as a kid has made me love it even more as an adult. That and living in a city with a lot of things going on at Halloween, for sure.

  3. I miss all the running around from when my kids were little and we scrambled for costumes for all three if them. There was always at least one of them that would change their mind a day or two before Halloween and we’d have to put together a different costume!

    1. Little Jedi has had his costume picked out for weeks, luckily-he and his dad went to get it since he’ll be there for Halloween. Sam and I still have to work on our costumes, though!!

    1. Thank you! We’re just hoping at this point that the rain will clear up by then. Luckily it held off long enough for the parades last night, but last night and all of today has been rain, and it’s projected through the week!

      1. That’s a real downer! Seems like that’s the way it always happens. Plan outside activities and the weather doesn’t cooperate. Last Halloween we had snow! This year is going to be rain.
