#WeekendCoffeeShare: In Which We Say Goodbye…And Hello Again

If we were having coffee, I would suggest we walk to the cafe nearby, maybe grab a pastry as we sit outside. More and more I am appreciating this area we’re in, and I’m especially enjoying the sounds. Sure, there are cars  at times, but it’s not a high-traffic area, especially in the evening. And aside from the stay fire truck (the fire station in 5 or 6 blocks away), we hear riverboats and church bells most of the time. On occasion it’s like being in a different era, and it’s not something I mind in the least….Though I must say that I’m glad I live in the time of air conditioning!

I would tell you, as we sat and listening to the church bells and river boats, that I am a bit sad to say goodbye to this iteration of Part-Time Monster. Some of my favorite writing has been published here, and I’ve had so many fantastic conversations. And although I intend to do those, and although I’m mostly just changing hosts, this is still a bit of a goodbye. Changing the focus of the blog means saying goodbye to one of my favorite features, Monster Mondays, and letting go of some of the features like Top Ten Tuesday that I considered bringing back.

But letting those things go is ultimately in the best interest of the blog and my writing in general. The new Part-Time Monster will include content that is much more personal in nature—primarily about my sexuality and gender have complicated and are complicated by my experiences in small-town Mississippi, but also about my life now that I have been diagnosed with bipolar type 2.

I’ll still be writing about pop culture and about monsters and all kinds of other things. Sometimes that content will appear here, especially when it relates to my focus. Mostly, though, (and I’ve very happy to say this!) that content will go to Comparative Geeks. I’ll be posting there as a contributor once the new site opens (they’re moving too!). I’ll also be posting some more political pieces at Field of Letters, a site owned and edited by a former colleague and featuring a lot of smart ladies talking about awesome things.

And as for the coffee share…Things are just going to get better! I’m going to be making a few changes, starting this one—the coffee share is moving to Fridays! In order to give us an extra 24 hours to link-up and share, I’m going to post my coffee share with the link-up on Friday mornings, 8 a.m. U.S. CT. It will still be open until 11:55 p.m. U.S. CT on Sundays. The coffee share has a new Twitter account, which I’ll be using to share coffee posts and retweet those who are joining in the coffee share on Twitter.

For now, I’m off to work on the site a bit more. On Monday, I’ll post the new URL. Between now and then, I’ll be following and retweeting and liking on Facebook and Twitter!

Link up your posts below, just please follow our few little rules!
1. Posts should be framed as a chat over coffee or some other beverage.
2. Posts should be current (written within the week).
3. Links go on the link-up, not in the comments section.
4. Comment and share each others’ posts using #weekendcoffeeshare on Facebook and Twitter!

  1. I am in favor of anything you do, Diana. You are the hottest with the mostest, as well as a feminist I respect. I can be a Daughter of the Confederacy if I so choose, so I love to hear your feminist point of view from the deepest (well, if you don’t count Florida) part of the south. you just go.

  2. Already following you on the new blog 🙂

I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Everybody is doing so much, making new blogs and tinkering and here I am refusing to change the theme of mine lol I don’t even know what my blog’s focus is, to be honest. I wanted to have a focus, but it’s become a dumping ground for all my personal writing which is to say, anything that ever pops into my head. I sometimes wonder if I should try to narrow it down, but I just don’t think I could do it. Oh well. I did start up a newsletter, though, and I am making progress on doing some “Real Writing”.

Not sure how I feel about the change to Fridays. I post my coffee posts on Sundays and I always feel like I am behind. Now I’ll be even further behind!

Good luck and thanks for the coffee 🙂

    1. I worry about people who post on Sundays not feeling included enough! I am trying to come up with some ideas about that—any thoughts?

  3. Looking forward to the new site and where it takes you. I’ve been thinking about making a change with my blog. I’ve been writing more and more personal stories. Some I’d like to share while others will remain in my journal.

    1. Thanks!

I feel better for the changes. I think they’re part of a bigger series of changes that I’m going through, and I think I like them. 🙂

    1. Thank you! I’m glad the change will make it work better for you. I hoped that it would help those who were ahead of my U.S. time zone!

  4. I’m so looking forward to the new blog! So many people making so many exciting and awesome changes…. I feel like I’m just a slacker sitting at my old domain doing my same-old thing (only.. not, because I just started up a new blog and a new business and you know, all that lazy sit-around-and-do-nothing kinda stuff…)
🙂 I wish I were really able to join you for coffee, the new neighborhood sounds delightful!

    1. haha! I feel like a slacker compared to most, because everyone else is carrying along a full time job in addition to their blogging, and I’m behind on everything with just my little part time job! Give yourself a break—you deserve it. 🙂 Someday if you visit NOLA you’ll have to come to our little neighborhood. It’s a nice spot to be in, both in and away from the city.

  5. I’m glad your physical move has gone so well! I hope the blogging one does as well. Making the new blog more personal should be good for you. Sometimes we need a place to express ourselves in an (almost) totally unfiltered way. Friday for coffee? I’ll still post on Saturday morning, but it might be a good idea to have that extra day since it has become so popular.

I hope you have a great week coming up!

    1. Thank you! I’m looking forward to the changes, especially in the coffee share. I think that will give me more time to read and share the posts, which I haven’t been able to accomplish much in recent weeks.

  6. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the blog…it sounds like it’s going to be fantastic! 😀 (Not that it isn’t already fantastic, of course!) It’s amazing how much thought and planning and decision making goes into this stuff. I’ve been tinkering and tinkering and tinkering with my blogs, and I still feel like I’ve got a million miles to go. *sigh*

    Have a great weekend! ❤
