If we were having coffee, I would suggest we walk to the cafe nearby, maybe grab a pastry as we sit outside. More and more I am appreciating this area we’re in, and I’m especially enjoying the sounds. Sure, there are cars  at times, but it’s not a high-traffic area, especially in the evening. And aside from the stay fire truck (the fire station in 5 or 6 blocks away), we hear riverboats and church bells most of the time. On occasion it’s like being in a different era, and it’s not something I mind in the least….Though I must say that I’m glad I live in the time of air conditioning!

I would tell you, as we sat and listening to the church bells and river boats, that I am a bit sad to say goodbye to this iteration of Part-Time Monster. Some of my favorite writing has been published here, and I’ve had so many fantastic conversations. And although I intend to do those, and although I’m mostly just changing hosts, this is still a bit of a goodbye. Changing the focus of the blog means saying goodbye to one of my favorite features, Monster Mondays, and letting go of some of the features like Top Ten Tuesday that I considered bringing back.

But letting those things go is ultimately in the best interest of the blog and my writing in general. The new Part-Time Monster will include content that is much more personal in nature—primarily about my sexuality and gender have complicated and are complicated by my experiences in small-town Mississippi, but also about my life now that I have been diagnosed with bipolar type 2.

I’ll still be writing about pop culture and about monsters and all kinds of other things. Sometimes that content will appear here, especially when it relates to my focus. Mostly, though, (and I’ve very happy to say this!) that content will go to Comparative Geeks. I’ll be posting there as a contributor once the new site opens (they’re moving too!). I’ll also be posting some more political pieces at Field of Letters, a site owned and edited by a former colleague and featuring a lot of smart ladies talking about awesome things.

And as for the coffee share…Things are just going to get better! I’m going to be making a few changes, starting this one—the coffee share is moving to Fridays! In order to give us an extra 24 hours to link-up and share, I’m going to post my coffee share with the link-up on Friday mornings, 8 a.m. U.S. CT. It will still be open until 11:55 p.m. U.S. CT on Sundays. The coffee share has a new Twitter account, which I’ll be using to share coffee posts and retweet those who are joining in the coffee share on Twitter.

For now, I’m off to work on the site a bit more. On Monday, I’ll post the new URL. Between now and then, I’ll be following and retweeting and liking on Facebook and Twitter!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m glad to be finally moved in and unpacked. We’d have our coffee in on the big purple couch, maybe, or if it isn’t already too warm we can sit in the swing in our backyard or out on the little balcony that overlooks our neighborhood.

Yes, we’re unpacked and almost settled in already. I like to get the unpacking over with rather quickly, as I do enjoy organizing a new space and don’t enjoy having all the things in boxes! We’re going to spend the weekend sorting out our storage closet and hanging art on the walls, then picking up a few new things (like a shower curtain for the claw-foot tub) to finish up the tidying and settling in.

And then I’m going to spend the rest of the weekend making some changes to the blog and getting ready to start posting again on a regular basis on June 1! On Wednesday I’ll be posting about some of the changes I’m making, including some coffee share news!

For now, though, it’s back to work. More on Wednesday!!

If we were having coffee, we might walk a few blocks over to a little cafe near our new house. Or, depending on how sore I am, I might be awfully lazy and drive over. You’d certainly be welcome to come inside our house for a cuppa or two–we have at least found and unpacked the coffee maker and coffee mugs–but if you were to do that, you might be handed a box or two to unpack.

We managed to make the move on Thursday, though we didn’t finish packing the last of our things until that very morning! The move turned out to be quite the adventure, as our front door had to be temporarily removed in order for our very large purple couch to make it into the new apartment and we accidentally put furniture in front of all the bedroom outlets and then had to reconfigure. Oops! But honestly, there’s always some kind of hiccup in the moving process, and if those are the worst that we ended up with then I suppose it’s really not so bad. Nothing seems to be broken or to have been left behind, and the strong storm front that came through New Orleans yesterday wasn’t here until nighttime when the moving was over and we’d already settled in for the evening.

We were all hopelessly tired and sore yesterday, and our poor pup seems also to have been exhausted after the move. Poor fellow! He did have a difficult day on Thursday. We kept him in the bathroom while we were moving things so that he wouldn’t run outdoors, and that made him pretty unhappy. And then he had to be loaded into the car to make the trip across the bridge to the new house, which also made him unhappy—because unlike most other dogs I’ve had, Tank does *not* like to go for car rides. Also, storms are pretty much his least favorite thing (aside from car rides, of course), so the nighttime made the poor creature unhappy, too. He spent most of yesterday following me around and curling up right next to me (or in my lap) whenever I sat down.

I think that when Tank settles in, though, he’ll be as happy as the rest of us are with the move. Our place is a lot smaller, but it is much nicer and in a much nicer neighborhood than our other house. We also have a back yard, which is a nice change—our old house only had a small spot that was bricked over with no greenery except the moss that grew on the bricks–and there’s a little balcony just off of the master bedroom.

We’ve managed to get Little Jedi’s room and the kitchen unpacked and mostly finished, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do in our master bedroom, my office area, and the living room. Those are the plan for today, although perhaps all three might be more than we can do. One thing at a time, I suppose.

And with that, my friends, I’ll have to leave you for now. Sincerest apologies for comments I haven’t replied to and posts I didn’t get to read and also posts I didn’t get to write. We’re almost settled in, and then it’ll be time for me to do some house-keeping around the Monster.❤

If we were having coffee, I might suggest that we have it outside the house, perhaps at a cafe a few blocks away instead of home. It’s not necessarily that I don’t want you in my house, you see—but my house is full of boxes and disarray, meaning that finding enough coffee cups for everyone might be a challenge.

For those of you keeping track, that means that last weekend’s possibly-new-house is now our definitely-new-house. We’ve got movers scheduled to show up at 8:30 Thursday morning, and so I’ve been packing since we found out the news last Sunday. It’s hard to believe that all of this is happened so quickly–when we move in, it will only have been two weeks since we began our search for a new place–and yet it feels as though the week and a half since that first look at our new place has been a much longer span of time.

It feels a bit like we’re on fast-forward right now, but I know that things will begin to slow down in just a few weeks after we make the move and Little Jedi’s school ends for the summer. He’ll be gone two weeks each month this summer, and while I will miss him oh so much, I am already making plans for making use of my time when he’s gone. I’m now within walking distance of a lot of new places to sit down and write, and there are lots of things in store for the Monster once I’m able to do so.

So stick with me, lovelies. Posts until the end of May will be limited to weekend coffee shares and Monster Mondays. In June, though…In June we’re going to have some fun.🙂 I’ll be making some updates to the coffee share as well as returning to pop culture blogging and more frequent posting.

For now, alas, I’ll have to cut this short. I’ve still got dishes to pack today and a piece of furniture or two to move out today!

And miles to go before I sleep.
